Mummy Makeover

CONSIDERING A MUMMY MAKEOVER?

Mummy Makeover

Mummy makeover surgery involves the correction of the unwanted body changes that occur following childbirth. During pregnancy the abdominal wall undergoes significant prolonged stretching. This may result in the presence of unattractive stretch marks, a rectus diastasis or separation of the abdominal muscles and marked loose and flabby abdominal skin that cannot be reduced with exercise and diet.

Additionally, unwanted changes occur in the breasts as a result of pregnancy and breastfeeding. This can create a sagging breast, a deflated breast that has lost its youthful volume and produce asymmetry or an uneven appearance of the breasts.

The classic mummy makeover package consists of a combination of breast and abdominal procedures:

  • Breast lift or mastopexy, and could also include breast implants if you feel they are needed
  • Abdominoplasty or tummy tuck, or possibly liposuction

Mummy makeover surgery is generally longer than most other cosmetic surgeries due to the combination of procedures. However, it is usually still a day surgery procedure, but may need an overnight stay if a full abdominoplasty is performed.

The recovery period is longer for this type of surgery and includes wearing an abdominal binder as part of the post surgery period.
